SPD Power Meter Pedals

The industry might catch up to the consumer desire eventually, but in the meantime, here’s a quick list of SPD Power Pedals. … Unfortunately, there isn’t really a budget option.

These are not SPD-SL style. I’ll make another quick list for those soon.

Garmin Rally XC100 & XC200

Garmin Website

$699 — XC100 is a one-sided, left-leg-only, power pedal.

$1099 — XC200 is dual-sided.

ASSIOMA Favero Duo + Xpedo M-Force 8 or CXR

Favero Website

Xpedo Website

Their spindles and bearings are perfectly compatible! Hundreds (if not thousands) of people have done it successfully, including many triathletes.

Here’s a video for the process: https://youtu.be/ybAFIhKahnM

These require easy disassembly and reassembly if you want SPD pedals (and not SPD-SL). You’ll need to use the Assioma Favero Duo and either Xpedo CXR or M-Force 8. Unfortunately, the M-Force 4, as shown in the video, is discontinued.

$755— Assioma Favero Duo, dual-sided power meters.

$125 — Xpedo CXR, reliable SPD mountain/gravel bike pedals.

$880 all-in for gold standard power meter pedals. Huzzah!

A full $200 less than the Garmin.

  • * SHOE DISCLAIMER: there is the possibility, or likelihood, of the power meter capsule interfering with mountain or gravel bike-style cycling shoes, depending on the tread and depth of cleat recession.
People have successfully ground off a small portion of their shoe tread to accommodate the power meter.

SRM X-Power Pedal

SRM Website *note: this is not SRAM

$1500 — dual-sided.

$1200 — single-sided.

These are included because there aren’t any other options on the market.

I want to mention that their website and brand feel out of date. This product is likely expensive because the competition is slim, not because it’s anything special.

Whether it’s a good power meter pedal is also moot since Garmin, an expensive premium brand in its own right, makes a pair for $400+ less.

Conclusion

Did I mention this would be a quick list?

I’d suggest getting the Garmin or the Assioma+Xpedo option.

I went the Assioma+Xpedo route and couldn’t be happier about it!
